General view of Works1968 - the idea to found an aluminum-processing plant in Shumen occurred. An Investment Committee was created to enable the fulfillment of this aim. At first they planned to create an extrusion shop only but later they decided to create a rolling shop as well.

September 1970 - the project for the idea was passed and ratified by Decree of the Ministerial Council No 338. The building site had an area of 400 decares, the investments amounted to 119 900 000 BGN and the planned output was about 50 000 tons per year.

3 January 1973 – the vertical planning of the building site began.
1975 – a training and production shop was built in the “Tophaneto” area. A five-hundred-ton press for the production of aluminum-extruded stock was started – it produced rims and ordinary profiles. The first shop of the plant, the mechanical maintenance shop, was started in the same year and the construction of the extrusion, electrical and mechanical shop and of the auxiliary units began. The first block of flats, which was a property of the plant and comprised 120 flats meant for the personnel was finished during the same year.

27 March 1975 – by Order No 581 the plant was given its first name – “Aluminum-processing plant”

1977 – the extrusion shop was started, where they used the first 2 500ton press.
June 1979 – by Decision No 26 of the Ministerial Council the plant was transformed into an Economic Plant with its production intended to cover the need of the domestic market of aluminum stock, sheets and foil.
1980 – the rolling shop was started, the equipment for which was provided and installed by the Italian company “TEKMO SRA”.

9 October 1981 – by Decree of the Ministerial Council the plant was given the name “Stamen Stamenov”. It had the following structure: casting, extrusion, rolling, anodization shop, window-profiles-producing shop, auxiliary units, instrumental shop, electrical fitting shop; a controlling and measuring laboratory and a substation.

28 November 1981 – the plant was officially opened during the celebrations on the occasion of the Foundation of the Bulgarian State.

1 May 1986 – the plant was transformed into an aluminum-processing metallurgical plant, preserving its structure.

1983 – 1987 - the plant realized the first exportation of its production: it exported aluminum profiles to Democratic Republic of Germany, sheets to Hungary and strips to Rumania, Libya and Greece.

1989 – by Decision of the Ministerial Council No 50/ 30.03.89 the plant was transformed into “Alumina” State Company, having the following subject of activity:
Aluminum stock, aluminum and aluminum-alloy products, aluminum window profiles aluminum pads for magnet disks, processing of secondary aluminum raw materials and aluminum plates. The statutory capital of the company amounted to 134 100 BGN and it consisted of the following firms: “Stamen Stamenov” Aluminum-Processing Metallurgical Plant, Plates-Producing Plant in Sofia, “Andrey Mihaylov” Aluminum- Window-Profiles-Producing Plant in the town of Breznik.

1991 – by Order ÐÄ-17-29/ 17.06 “Alumina” State Company was transformed into “Alumina” Private Limited Company and was registered under the Trade Law, having for its subject of activity the production of: aluminum stock, aluminum and aluminum-alloy products, research and designing, trade within or out of the country. The capital of the company was 93 512 BGN, which was divided into 93 512 shares of nominal value of 1.00 BGN. The Board of Directors performs the management of the company.

The main export partners of the company are Turkey, Greece, Macedonia and Denmark as well. Trial samples and lots have been exported to England, Italy, Portugal, Germany, South Korea, etc. The company has potential clients in the countries of the CIS, Rumania, the Near East, Spain and Italy.

On 18 November 1997 “Alumina” Private Limited Company was reregistered under the Trade Law and was transformed into “Alumina” Plc.

The procedure for privatization of Alumina AD is opened in 1998 with establishment of two structures.
- Alumina Invest AD – Registered on 27.10.1998
- FAF Metal Limited - Istanbul, Turkey

On 13.09.1999 a Contract for sale of Alumina AD. was signed between the Privatization Agency, as authorized organ by the Bulgarian State from one side and FAF Metal Limited and Alumina Invest AD, submitted joint offer as Consortium “Alumina –1998”, as a buyer. According to this Contract FAF Metal Limited becomes an owner of 51% (759 126 in number shares) of the capital of Alumina AD and Alumetal AD-possesses 24 % (357 235 in number shares) of the capital of the joint-stock company.

After taking its opportunity for preference participation in the privatization of Alumina AD, FAF Metal Limited purchases additional number of shares, amounting to 17,1 % of the company’s capital.

At the end of November 1999, a Contract was concluded between FAF Metal and Industrial Holding "Bulgaria", Sofia for establishment of co-operative shareholders company Alumetal AD with equal participation of the two parties.

On 24 June 2000 a new change in the name of the company, the Statute and the Board of Directors occurred, thus the company acquired its new name, “Alcomet” Plc.

On 18.07.2001 an additional agreement to the Privatization Contract between the Privatization Agency, FAF Metal Limited, Alumina Invest AD and Alumetal AD has been signed for change of the Company name from Alumina AD to Alcomet AD.

In June 2002 Industrial Holding Bulgaria withdrew from Alumetal AD, selling its share to FAF Metal Limited. On 03.09.2002 at a General Meeting of the shareholders of Alcomet AD changes in the company statute have been made and new Board of the Directors is voted.

In the begging of year 2003 Alumina Invest AD sells its major part of the Alumetal AD capital, this way Alumetal AD becoming an owner of 75 % of the Alcomet AD capital.

The concluding privatization stage of Alcomet AD starts, which come to an end toward the end of 2004.

In 2003 and 2004 the rolling production was modernized, which included reconstruction of the four main rolling mills, putting in exploitation a new separator and modernization of the furnaces for thermal processing of foil and sheets. The four rolling mills were equipped with IT systems. The modernization of the Rolling mill is fulfilled by VAI UK, the UK-based subsidiary of the Austrian Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI).

At the end of year 2004 was put in action a new line for powder coating of profiles and sheets, as an addition to the production range of the company. In the beginning of 2005 an installation for profile and sheets packaging was launched.

In 2005 was started and in the following 2006 lies ahead the final stage of the reconstruction of the casting shop consisting of modernization of 5 lines for continuous coil casting building of two new furnaces-mixers with common line for semi-continuous casting of billets for extrusion from company “WAGSTAFF” and modernization of the furnace for billet homogenizing.
In 2005 was modernized òhe 2000 tons press.-

In 2006 "Alcomet" AD increase the o.'s own capital from 4 488 482 lv. to 17 952 959 lv. Construction of three modern furnaces and modernization of five lines for continuous coil casting; two new furnaces-mixer with common line for semi-continuous casting of bullets for extrusion of the company WAGSTAFF and modernization of furnace for homogenizing of billets for extrusion; equipment of the 1300 tons extrusion press and equipment of the furnace for artificially senescent of extrusions in the extrusion shop.

In year 2007 the investment were directed to purchasing and putting in exploitation of a new 1700 t. press, new filter installations, new furnace for aluminium casting, new cooling systems, new furnace for artificial profile aging, refining stations, disc scissors and heat treatment furnaces modernization, furnaces for homogenization, modernization of the lines for continuous casting of coils, installation for additional treatment and other production equipment
